This is Romeo, one of our bucks.

Romeo, just wanted some "goatie time" after morning chores.

You see, we handle and interact with all our goats from birth or the time they arrive on the farm.

This pays great dividends later in life. To them, we are momma for life and no matter how big they get, they always remember!

Farming by Moonlight

When you both work full time jobs and have a farm you do a lot of chores after dark. This is not so bad in the summer, when the nights are cool, but in the winter when dusk occurs soon after you get home. It takes on a whole new dimension.

As the sun sets and the temperature plummets, if you are lucky the wind is not howling. But chores still need to be done. Water needs to be hauled and food needs to be given. Your comfort is secondary to your animal's well being. You work and toil until it is done. You make sure all is taken care of for the night before you head in and take care of your needs.

So remember this on those deep cold nights or raw rainy nights when all you want to do is get inside to a nice meal and get out of the weather. There is a farmer still out there tending the farm.

Egg Hunt

Some of the chickens in our flock have not gotten the memo.....

Eggs are to be laid in the nest boxes in the coop area.

Not out and about on the farm.

Recently our egg totals took a big hit. We looked around and found the girls stash. The chickens are now in the penalty box until noon on days we are home so they have no choice but lay in the coop area.

We are NOT fans of egg hunts.
