A few weeks ago Michelle and I were mucking, i.e. "cleaning out" the bucks barn. We would load up a cart with several hundred pounds of manure/hay and I would haul it over to the compost pile on the other side of the farm. Due to the weight, I go down the steep hill from the barn in low gear and let the engine slow my descent down the hill.
Well.... this time I had unknowingly slipped the tractor almost out of gear. So as I went down the hill and hit the first bump it went completely out of gear. When I hit the steepest part of the hill I was free wheeling and gaining speed.......fast. It took a second to realize what was wrong and hit the brakes. The wheels locked up but the load would have none of that, I skidded to a stop at the bottom of the hill.
Shaken, but otherwise OK and thanking THE LORD I did not jack knife on the way down.
So call me a big sissie, I love BRAKES!!
